lets go dutch

scene set in a restaurant .
camera from the entrance into the area of the restaurant.
we see tables and chairs laid out. ppl sitting across various tables and talking or eating or drinking.

we see the film going in fast forward mode from point 1 to point 3 in that order.no voice over
1. boy enters and sits at a table in the center which is empty .
2. the waiter comes and asks something and he says something and goes away
3. he is looking at his watch, drinking water, reading menu and phone all the time.[this should be a repetitive fast fwd action]

pause.

point 4 is in slow motion.. beautiful music .. no voice

4. she goes to the center table where the guy is waiting, smiles at him and asks him something .. he gets up.. she extends her hand and they sit across the table.

from point 5 again fast forward.

5. waiter comes,
6. they look at each, run through menus, laugh and say something
7. the waiter asks something
8 they say something
9 the waiter gets two cups of coffee
10 they are drinking coffee and talking. cofee cups are empty and they are still talking
11 the waiter comes again..asks something
12 they tell something
13 the waiter goes and gets the bill

end of fast forward .

we see and hear at normal frame rate.
the boy takes the bill before she can reach it. he looks at the amount .. and says .. " i got it", then he is trying to take out his wallet out of his pocket.

the girl says " Madhav please, lets go dutch, I insist"

the boy says " come on, its ok. next time we meet you can pay"

the girl says " thats not ok! next time I might want to go to HRC with you and get drunk on tequila shots. will it be fair then ?"

the boy says " wow you like the idea.. but HRC and tequilas in HRC will be really costly, we obviously will share it"

the girl says very seriously " So what if expensive? you think I cant pay the full amount ? do you think I cant afford "

the boy is taken aback. he says " i dint mean that .."

the girl says " then why would you say thats its obvious that we will share it"

the boy says " sorry. "

the girl says " its ok.. dont be.. i dint mean to hurt you. its much simpler to deal with if we go dutch for a few times. if we are sharing the bill equally i understand it as also treating the other person equally. it is acknowledging the fact that we dont know each other completely as of now and hence the objective way of treating him is my equal .

also as against to your alternate paying concept.. [stops and smiles] if i go dutch now, both of us can decide

if you would have paid and if we had gone to hrc, you would have the confusion there too right..?

being

the girl : tell me that you love me.

the boy: what ?

the girl: say " i love you"

the boy: i don't know if i love you, but i know that i love being with you. i say this because i haven't understood 'I' or 'You' completely, and so obviously i do not know if that 'I' loves 'You'.

But about 'being with you'- I love that absolutely in its fullest sense. being with you includes physically being with you, in you;), thinking about you, talking to you, listening to your stories, looking at you, helping you work, solving your problems, , eating your crappy food, ;) washing your hair, everything with you.

i love all kinds of ings with you ...:)darling..;)

the girl: arey baba.. dont start your metaphysics.. cant you say that you love our relationship.

the boy: yes yes yes, absolutely yes.. . you keep it so simple baby.. :).. hold on you are a genius actually, thanks to you i understood 'being' actually means 'being in a relation'.. didnt understand when sartre said that..

girl.: pls stopppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

gods and demons have it easy

The gods and demons have it easy. Since the gods are gods, they are all good. since the demons are demons they are all bad.

The gods since they are good, know only to think and do good and only understand good. 100% good
The demons since they are bad, know only to think and do bad and only understand bad. 100% bad
In other words they have no confusion. There is no disturbance.

but human beings are good and bad.. at times they do good at times they do bad..
To add to the confusion they might think bad while doing good and they might think good while doing bad..

some of them make an effort to be good all the time like the gods, but since they have physical needs unlike gods they cannot be absolutely 100% good.

so he is always has a percentage of good and bad in him.. for him to not have confusion, for him to not have disturbance.. to have the same clarity of thought that gods or demons have, he should know the percentage of good and bad in him.. for that he has to look at himself all the time.

21 sep 10

he can simply give it up and love or he can fight all his life growing and protecting it.. actually fighting aint a big deal.. its his primordial instinct to fight..continuously fighting against what is there.. changing the present.. again and again..

wars can be considered metaphors of this instinct. peace treaties only reduce the collateral damage in the aftermath. wars happen all the time.. somewhere ..

peace and love and war.. all are real.

wake up with the sun, not with the clock

while she goes grazing the flock

milk and fish for every bloke
healthy kids in every block

bed time with the moon, not with the clock

Gentleman's Game

Men have lives. Gentlemen have time in their lives. Gentlemen like to have a good game in the sun, with a lunch and tea in between. If the weather is not great they extend their breaks under the shade.

Gentlemen win , lose and sometimes draw games too. Gentlemen respect Gentlemen in the opposite team and respect their performance equally, by sharing a draw . A Gentleman's game has enough scope for every one to have a couple of good days during the 5 days. So if both teams have more than 2 great days they celebrate the draw at the end of the 5th day with a cheers.

kandasamy / Mallanna / torture

i write half this post today, forget about it for 2 years and then I get back to it.. I might delete some/most/all parts of the first half, rethink, rewrite and carry on to complete the post..

however this cant be done with a movie.. too costly..

so what gets baked is a series of random shots, cheap out of context thrills, item numbers .. etc.. no matter how many curries, side dishes, papads, pickles you try with, the morsel sucks if the rice that we make sucks..

the story

-- the full moon, the train, the wind, the darkness --

he was leaning across the huge metal door and was eating the strong wind & digging the moon in the cold night.. a while later he squatted down resting his back across the door.. when the girl came to wash her face in the sink next to the door.. their eyes met.. he offered room , she sat down.. and the conversation begins..

-- 3 hours ago ---------
--the full moon, the palace, the train --

he smoked the last one for the evening and admired at the beautiful moon and the surprisingly neat and white palace which is the railway station.. got out his cam.. took a couple of shots.. and before he was lost into it.. he got into the station and got into the train..

What a Match.. what a Win.. What a Batsman..

Apart from the usual solace and assurance, what a troubled soul really needs is a high that can alleviate the pain, it need to be reminded that it can smile, laugh and relish life again… It craves for an occasion that helps it purge the phlegm of sadness.

But what and who can make a billion of us jump in joy in these troubled times?

What else than the script so perfectly written, than the victory so elegantly carved, than the play that unfolded so dramatically?

Who else can do it better than the GOD of the one RELIGION that all of us believe in & practice?

Thank you Sachin, Thank you Cricket, and Thank you English men for having brought this religion hundreds of years ago and again for coming back in these troubled times to play you r roles in this wonderful match.

Good Bye, My love

My love,

After a lot of deliberation during the last few days I’ve decided to say good bye to you. Darling please, don’t stop reading… I know you must be thinking that I am beginning to behave like an average Indian male, succumbing to the requests of his well wishers and chucking his love. I am sorry dear, but I have to say good bye to you as I don’t have any other option, sounding like a loser, am I?

Dear, I shall at least try to be honest. I did LOVE you... How couldn’t I? You are so nice, gentle, attractive and elegant. The first time I saw you, I thought you were beyond my reach, but I remember how good you have been to me right from the first day we met personally. They all told me that you weren’t good, but I knew they were wrong because I remember during the last three years you were the only one on my side when all others weren’t. When I was happy you made me happier, when I was sad you consoled me with sweet kisses on my lips, and when I was tense your hand was in mine telling me “don’t worry dear, I am with you, lets face it together”. I always loved you attitude - “live for the moment”.

During the last three years every day of my life began, with your sweet sensuous kiss on my wet lips, so much so that I had to hide your marks out of embarrassment sometimes. Both in letter and spirit you were the first one I wanted to see every morning when I opened my eyes.

My love, you got into my life so smoothly that not just me, even my friends began to accept you in our company. Your charm made me win great friends at school and work.

You must be wondering how after the recent great holiday in Goa where we spent hours lying on the beach staring at the night sky, I could take such drastic decision. Unfortunately life is full of surprises, most of them unpleasant. I know, you are hurt deeply by now and you would want to call me and ask “You too Naga… you too?” Please don’t do that … I beg you please, coz I know if you try to get closer to me I can’t resist you. As I conclude this letter, my fingers are beginning to tremble, my heart is beating fast… my blood is racing …an incredible urge to come down and hug you. I know dear, you would be standing right opposite my office waiting for me, but honey, I am sorry, really sorry. I know the word sorry doesn't make any difference to you now..but Its time to say good bye and move on..

Yours no more forever
Naga

WikiHit version 1.0 - a game for wiki lovers

The rules of the game:

Discuss with your fellow players and choose a word - say 'Reese Witherspoon'. Lets call the wiki page on this as target page.

Now go to www.wikipedia.org
click on the link random article. The site would throw you a page a random. Lets call this Page zero. Fasten your seat belts, your time begins now.

Now with out using ur keyboard, traversing only through the links given in the page zero try to reach the target page.

The winnng criterion could be least number of clicks, or least time or a combination of both.

This game requires both luck and skill. The lucky ones might get any hollywood celebrity page or a movie page as page zero. The skill factor comes in choosing the plausible nearest link to the target page from among the various links in each page. Now thats some exercise on reading comprehension & sixth sense. isnt it?

You can improve the game with more rules & constraints for more fun. Some of them I could think of are:
Not allowed to click the back button
Not opening new windows or new tabs

Is there a Charlie in you ?

The first time I saw the movie 'Me Myself & Irene', I guess I was in the latter half of my teens. It was hilarious and I had a good laugh. Jim Carrey, his three kids, the kids’ actual father, the cow on the highway, made me laugh big time. Charlie and Hank the two faces of Jim Carrey had such contrasting attitudes toward life and thus their behavior. It’s a funny movie based on schizophrenia. That was about it, until it suddenly crossed my mind a few hours ago. It suddenly occurred to me that I have seen the real Charlie some where.

Charlie is a nice guy, who is unable to say no, constantly trying to please people around him. Well, it makes him a very amiable guy, helps him make friends easily but at what cost? A volcano that got seeded since he doesn’t know when, that was dormant all along suddenly becomes active. Since it’s intended to be a fun movie the relatively tough and bad guy Hank does only mischief to entertain the audience, but what if the Hank is dangerous? There are a whole lot of movies that depict schizophrenic characters in the bad side as well.

Though all the guys who are like Charlie, trying their best to please others might not turn schizophrenics, they might still trouble themselves and others around them. These people tend to lie frequently as they believe that it’s always best to please and help others. With out their knowing they develop an obsessive compulsion to lie. They reach a point when they find it impossible say NO. They could be bright, smart individuals who can analyze a given situation very thoroughly but they are carried away in the heat of the moment to please others. Even if they realize that they ultimately have to say no they tend to procrastinate the ‘no’ landing themselves and those dependent on them into trouble.

There are many Charlies around. You come across them in your work place, in school, or even at home. The best Charlie whom I can think of is Karna the eldest son of Kunti in Mahabharata. Not intending to disturb his teacher when a wasp stings him, he remains silent bearing the pain only to incur the teacher’s wrath later. Knowing that Lord Indra would come in an opportune moment to take away his immortal shield he does nothing. Knowing that he is on the wrong side in the war, well aware that the Kauravas are the bad guys he continues to stand by his friend Duryodhana, for he doesn’t want to bring a mark to their friendship. The only time he says NO is to his mother is when she asks him to spare the Pandavas in war. Even that’s less than a quarter NO as he says to her ‘will not harm any of your sons, save Arjuna’

So if you think you are a Charlie learn to say NO. The first step is realizing that you are a Charlie. Then find a way yourself. Don’t ask me how ;)

Unconventional stress busters

To beat stress Hanuman might work out in the gym, Vishwa Mitra might prefer yoga, Sita might visit the spa for a good massage, Draupadi might take a shower, Krishna might hit the dance floor flooding with girls, Ravana might booze or prefer a few hits to soothe his heads, Kubera might want to gamble away some of his largesse, Bhima might clean up a couple of Mc Ds.

Wanna beat the gods ? You can try out the following simple unconventional stress busting techniques at home.

Buy a packet of potato wafers or nachos. Munch a few and save the rest to beat the stress. This is what you do : take a handful of the wafers or nachos and crush them to powder in your palm by folding your fingers in and out. In the words of uncle Barney it feels awesomely awesome. Repeat this activity along as you feel good. It does work because a lot of stress generally builds up in ur palms and fingers owing to lack of adequate blood supply. This is the reason why masseurs spend considerable time on your fingers.

The second technique is for your feet:

when you soak your to-be-washed clothes in surf or ariel, use luke warm water. Wash ur legs and stand in the bucket over the soaked clothes for a while, now start slowing moving ur legs up and down so that entire surface of the sole gets in touch with the warm soaked clothes. For best results use soaked jeans. Its slightly rough texture relieves the stress in less than 5 min.

The gods must be crazy! Says who ??

doom barabar doom

but for the title track this movie is one big flop show..

mr. director,
do u think that making the big B sway his hips donning johny depp's costume .. draws the audience..? no way.. guess u are forgetting the fact that movies evolved from theatre/drama which is an art.. marketing the movie comes later, i.e after you have crafted a good product..
One good thing that you have done - using the track ' jhoom barabar jhoom' frequently.. that was the only thing most of us enjoyed, or did u realise after seeing the rushes that the song is the only noteworthy part.. ;)

and dear AB senior,
no doubt its ur son's movie, no doubt the crowds cheered when they saw u in the first shot .. but did u know that ppl started yawning later when u came again and again.. like subhash ghai does in his movies..
those of us who cudnt yawn went to answer nature calls though the nature wasnt calling.. but wait, somebody was happy with ur frequent interventions..
yeah, the tobacco guys cos .. the smoking audience among us burnt a few more sticks..

ahaa Bobby deol,
ur entrance - saving zinta from the superman effigy.. followed by your expression gazing at the audience for a couple of minutes.. with the camera going round and round around u ..while u kept gazing at us.. oh my god..

lara,
nice to see you after quite some time.. though u put on some weight.. u look great..

AB jr,
hmm.. u r ok but.. u look cooler in the moto ads.. and hey dude.. when u mentioned about the various waxworks at Madame Tussauds did you forget about the king khan.. ? Uve mentioned the name of every other indian celebrety at Tussauds.. come on brother.. grow up..

Zinta,
have read ur rediff interviews.. before the movie hit the screens.. that u are playin the role of a cool dudette.. who knows what she wants ..independent.. blah blah.. But does bold & independent mean showing off a tattoo and declaring that u made love .. well.. u look like uve forgotten ur roles in 'kya kehna' & 'Lakshya' ..
well u mite say... this ones a different movie.. different setting, commercial crap etc.. but wud u want to be remembered wid this movie.. i dont think u wud say yes..

Yash&Co,
good that you have promoted 'Chak de India' promo along with the movie.. looking forward to watch it..

Nishabd

'spellbound' would have been my choice for the title of the movie.. cos i was in awe for two hours .. live life on your own terms.. is the spirit of the leading protagonists in the movie.. which I believe is the attitude of the director as well.. An artist, says Amitab in the movie need not please the world with his work.. if a couple of like minded people can appreciate it, u can take light about the rest of the world.. Cant stop from thinking that RGV is telling the world that.. he would produce the movies he likes to make and gives a rats ass to people who don’t like his movies..;)

at the first level, the director of a movie can captivate the audience with content that is pleasing to the senses..eyes - with good camera work, ears - with good music. The camera man and the music director chosen by Mr varma have done a wonderful job.. kerala, tea estates, hills, lakes simply wonderful.. these coupled with a wonderful score in the background makes you accept that kerala indeed is gods own land..

at the second level, the director can show his creativity and intelligence in the making of a movie that clearly sends across the intended message.. Vijay (AB) checks out his face and hair in the mirror in the bathroom after he was appreciated by the young Gia and then when he casually opens the door ..u see Revathy(the wife) sleeping on the bed.. now theres a pause for a second which conveys the thoughts, fears, reality that are storming Mr Bachan's brain.. its amazing to realise that a pause on the screen can do the trick.

or when Gia tells him that she loves him and asks him if he loves her as well.. vijay answers in the affirmative ... all through this shot theres a photograph of Revathy on the wall in the background that sends a strong reminder signal that Vijay is responding to the love of Gia inspite of his marriage and family with Amrita..

Dear Mr. Varma.. hats off to you..

At the third level, the director can make the viewer empathize with the characters of the movie there by touching the audience emotionally.. not forgetting that it is the actors who have to strike chord with the emotions of the audience.. and god.. I cant stop applauding Revathy for that..

what feelings would Amrita, a lady in the late fifties would have when she discovers that her 60 yr old husband is in love with a 18 yr girl who is a friend of her daughter .. simply put the feelings would be a combo of sadness and disgust .. one can see the movie again for the look on her face that captures these feelings.. when she tells Vijay that he isnt even worth respecting any other human being.

Dear Mrs. Revathy hats off to you too..

After Gia moves out of the house of Bachan, I wondered that it should be tough for the director to take the movie forward from here with out boring the audience.. the smart director wraps up the movie in 15 minutes.. after letting the audience realize that Gia is still in the heart of Bachan and that he is not a hypocrite, who does not live life on his own terms as blamed by Gia.

Oh.. just remembered that at the first level, in pleasing the audience’s senses the leading lady in the movie can be used..:) and showing her in a sensuous way is RGV’s forte.. isn’t it..? Gia is another great find by RGV who is a hot gorgeous dusky beauty with a pair of amazing legs..

Dear Nafisa aka Gia, my lil brother salutes you ;)

happy new year.. whats new and whats happy ?

time is continuous so wtf is a new year ? & wtf do we celebrate on dec 31st ?
Do we move to a new world in the new year ? or does the earth start moving around another star in the new year?
Its the same life again, the same 365 days, same months, same seasons,so why are we excited about the new year or the new millenium?

may be its all in the mind. If i look at all the mundane facts ive listed above I realise they are because my mind says they are.

Its so surprising that a 'new year' which is just a mental concept is accepted with such gay all over the world. Its so difficult to know whats in the thoughts of people around us, we talk about misunderstandings, but everyone happily accepts a non existent happy new year..

or may be its the beauty of change. We need different numbers for different years to locate discrete periods of time in the past. while the world is still the same, the same seasons, the same months, its 2007 and not 2006 & yeah 2007 is diff frm 2006 atleast in the number. hmm..so may be its the change that excites all of us atleast in representation if not real. cos our minds can make our representation real.
